The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on February 8, 1910 and chartered by Congress in 1916 with a mission to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. Troop 3:16 is supported by a hierachy of BSA organizations that provide support in the form of policy and training of our Adult Leaders. National CouncilThe National Council is the corporate membership of the Boy Scouts of America that is chartered by the United States Congress to operate the BSA program. The National Council is registered as a non-profit private corporation and is funded from private donations, membership dues, corporate sponsors, and special events. T0 learn more about the National Council, please visit www.scouting.org. Local CouncilThe BSA's main administrative level is its 308 local councils, which are incorporated organizations that administer BSA programs in defined geographical areas. Each council is chartered annually by the National Council. Troop 3:16 is within the Western Los Angeles County Council (WLACC), headquartered in Van Nuys, which serves the North and West regions of Los Angeles County. To learn more about WLACC, please visit www.bsa-la.org. DistrictWLACC is divided in to six districts, which in turn directly interact with BSA's units. Troop 3:16 is part of the Bill Hart District, which oversees all Boy Scout Troops and Cub Scout packs within the Santa Clarita area. From its Newhall office, the District runs training programs, operates a small scout shop and six camps, supervises Eagle Scout Advancement, and administrates Rank Advancement, merit badge counseling, and Troop recharter. Bill Hart District runs a Roundtable Meeting between District officials and unit representatives on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at the LDS Church on 27405 Bouquet Canyon, Saugus, CA. 91350. This is our chance to find out what is going on within the District, WLACC and BSA nationally. It is also a place to get ideas, inspiration, and to share experiences. “How do I…”, “Where should I take my kids…”, “What should I do about…” Troop 3:16 sends one or more representatives to each monthly Roundtable. To learn more about the Bill Hart District, please visit billhart.bsa-la.org . UnitThe unit is the main program group of the BSA. Cub Scout units are organized as Packs, and Boy Scout units — like Troop 3:16 — as Troops. Each Troop is led by a registered and trained leader, the Scoutmaster. The Troop Committee is a group of adults, led by the Committee Chairman, who plan the unit program and activities and manage record keeping, finance, leadership recruitment, and registration.
