Scoutcraft is a term used to cover a variety of knowledge and skills required by people seeking to venture into the outdoors and sustain themselves independently. The term has been adopted by The Boy Scouts America to reflect skills and knowledge which are a core part of its program, alongside community and spirituality. Scoutcraft activities feature camping, cooking, knots and lashings, map and compass, emergency preparedness, wilderness survival, and much more. Scout skills cannot be mastered by performing them just once. Troop 3:16 Scouts will have many opportunities to practice each skill, from instruction at Troop Meetings and Summer Camp, to hands-on experience during campouts. It’s up to each Scout take advantage of the Advancement opportunities available to them, and to take initiative to ask for someone to test him when he is ready. Scouts will be thoroughly tested on each skill that is a Rank Advancement requirement before it is "signed off". In addition, expect to practice each skill repeatedly, even after it has been signed off. As Scouts progress, they will also have opportunities to teach these skills to less experienced Scouts, which will further reinforce their own knowledge and skill. See Also |
