Eagle Court of Honor

Eagle Scouts receive their badge at a special Eagle Court of Honor arranged by the Eagle and his family, usually about six weeks after the Eagle Board of Review. Although the family determines the invited guests, it is customary in our Troop for all members to celebrate each Eagle Scout’s Court of Honor. If a Scout is new to our Troop and do not know the Eagle Scout who is being honored, he is still a part of your new Troop and each Scout is expected to be there unless there are schedule conflicts.

Location and Time

The Eagle and his family select a date and time, in consultation with the Scoutmaster and Troop calendar. The ceremony can occur at Grace Baptist Church, or you can choose to have it at your own church, home, recreation center, or other appropriate place.

Planning

The Eagle Scout’s parents make arrangements for the facility and plan the program. The family is responsible for any costs of the ceremony, including refreshments. The Troop provides the Eagle Presentation Kit (Eagle cloth badge, Eagle medal, father’s pin, mother’s pin, Eagle pin). Also available for the ceremony, if desired, are the Troop’s flags & stands and Law/Promise candle stands.

The Eagle and his family determine who will be the color guard, speakers, etc, and they are responsible to invite them and make sure they will be there. The most important guest is the one selected to “charge” the Eagle with his responsibilities as an Eagle Scout. He/she should be a person of importance in the Eagle’s life. The family will also need to choose who will pin on the Eagle badge (often but not always either a parent or the Scoutmaster).

Most ceremonies have a reception afterward with deserts and drinks, though some get much more elaborate.

Program

The actual program is totally up to the Eagle and his parents, but below is a typical program: You can get more elaborate, add music or a special touch unique to the Eagle. You may design the ceremony any way you wish, and you do not have to follow this program. It’s nice to have a printed program that includes a summary of the Eagle Service Project, poem, interesting statistics, etc. It is always interesting to have photos and other Scouting memorabilia on display.
